Circus stars head to Winsford for Olympic celebration

ACROBATS, music, comedy and theatre are just some of the things that Winsford people can expect to launch the town’s Olympic celebrations.

The Netherland National Circus will head to the town during the weekend of July 21 and 22 bringing with it a 600-seater big top tent, the largest currently on tour in the UK.

The event, which will be staged on the Verdin Exchange Field, is being organised by the Winsford Festival Committe, who are also appealing for local talents to get involved.

Stephen Smith, on the committee, said: “This will be the biggest circus to ever come to Winsford, we haven’t had anything on this magnitude for at least 30 years.

“I don’t think people will have seen anything like it – the tent is huge.

“The circus is currently on tour in the UK and I’ll be meeting the organisers next week to pick the acts for when it comes to us.

“However, we want local people to get involved and perform in each show.

“It’s a great opportunity for anyone who thinks they have a talent, it is the ideal place to show it off.

“We want to see dance troops, magicians, gymnast, singers and performing arts.

“Anyone wanting to perform their act will get professional support.

“And we are not just asking for performers, there are plenty of things people can do behind the scenes. We want to give people experience back stage too.”

Five shows will be performed on each day focussing on the themes; sport, music, performing arts, acrobats and dance.

Anyone wanting to perform in the circus should attend an audition at The Edge, in Cheviot Square, on Saturday, March 10, between 12pm and 4pm.
