Hard work will pay dividend, says Winsford United manager Ian Street
2:05pm Thursday 29th December 2011
IAN Street expects the New Year to bring with it a change in fortune for Winsford United.
And Blues’ boss is confident it can happen quickly.
“It’s a matter of time before we get back to winning ways,” he said.
“The lads have been working hard in training, so everything is in place for us to start climbing the table again.”
Winsford had not won a Premier Division encounter since October 15 before Alsager Town arrived at Barton Stadium on Boxing Day, a sequence of six matches.
They head to Flixton on Monday.
Poor weather over the past fortnight forced the postponement of matches against St Helens Town and Colne, leaving Street’s side kicking their heels.
Last Tuesday’s scheduled Cheshire FA Senior Cup encounter against Stockport County went the same way.
He added: “I’d have preferred to play.
“It’s true our form has dipped recently, but the best – and only – way to put that right is out on the pitch.”
He is likely to be without skipper Lee Jones this weekend after the midfielder aggravated a leg injury that has blighted him for most of the campaign.
Sam McKay (back) is struggling too, while Matthew Ward is banned.
Goalkeeper Matthew Conkie, as reported in last week’s Guardian, is expected to be back between the posts too.
“I’m hoping to be able to pick a more settled team,” said Street.
Winsford reached Christmas eighth in the table, 14 points adrift of leaders Bootle.
