Flixton floor Blues with last gasp winner
2:54pm Thursday 5th January 2012
Flixton 2 Winsford United 1
WINSFORD’S woes worsened as their wait for a Premier Division win entered a third month.
Manager Ian Street will take little comfort in Jamie Henders scoring Blues’ 1000th goal in the North West Counties League, for Flixton scored two of their own to pinch the points.
It leaves Winsford in the table’s bottom half for the first time this term.
They had reason to be hopeful when Daniel Shannon raided down the left before squaring for Henders to send an emphatic finish past custodian James Jowsie.
However uncertainty between defensive duo Ryan Broadhead and Danny Thomas allowed Daniel Egan to race clear in the first attack of the second period to restore parity.
Ryan Stewart went close and Shannon forced Jowsie to save spectacularly, the Flixton number one turning Henders’ next effort onto a post as Blues piled on the pressure.
However a sucker punch followed in stoppage time when Thomas Smith had too much time to pick his spot.
