Table position forces deferral
9:23am Thursday 19th January 2012
WINSFORD United say it is pointless to apply for promotion to a higher level with the team stuck in mid-table.
Blues needed to notify the Football Association last month if they had plans to play in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League next term, but decided to defer.
“The chances of us finishing first are non-existent now,” said club secretary Bob Astles.
“We would also be unlikely to pass an inspection on the ground without spending money, something that isn’t worth it with us not near to the top of the table.”
Ian Street’s men were denied a chance to build upon last weekend’s win against St Helens Town when their scheduled trip to Maine Road on Saturday was postponed.
They were due to host Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers Stockport County in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup last night, Tuesday, before Flixton visit this weekend.
Matthew Ward is available again after serving a three-matches ban, while Josh Mainwaring returns to the squad after a holiday.
