Same old for Street

WINSFORD boss Ian Street blamed familiar failings for his team’s latest defeat at the weekend.
Blues’ revival ended against promotion hopefuls Barnoldswick Town, leaving the manager to rue a missed opportunity to keep up the momentum gained from back-to-back wins.
“It’s becoming the norm to say we should have won,” he said.
“But yet again we made mistakes that were punished; that’s the difference between winning matches and losing them.”
His team rallied from two-goals down, but they fluffed chances to pinch a point.
It marked a second defeat in seven days following Winsford’s exit from the Mid Cheshire FA Senior Cup at the semi finals stage against Northwich on Tuesday.
Blues led through Andy Hurst before the holders made their class tell in the second half to run out 4-2 victors.
Street said: “We put in a sterling performance against a team that is riding high at the top of the table two levels higher.”
He will be boosted by the return of captain Lee Jones for the trip to Bacup Borough this weekend following a long term injury absence, but Sam McKay (back) remains on the sidelines.
Street has not ruled out adding a fresh face or two either.
He added: “I’ll continue to ask the players to give me 100 per cent, which they have done in recent weeks.
“But I’m hoping to strengthen the squad if I can.”
He saved the last word for Blues’ Barton Stadium pitch, the condition of which he feels is having an impact upon his team’s results.
“We’re still managing to play excellent football but it’s frustrating to watch good players not being able to move the ball quickly because of the playing surface,” he added.
